After-school club or holiday club: which suits your child?
Both give children the same hands-on STEM, but they solve different problems. An after-school club is a weekly term-time habit at your child's own school. A holiday club fills a school holiday with longer, deeper sessions and covers childcare across the working day. The two also combine well, so it is not really either-or.
Two different jobs
An after-school club and a holiday club often teach the same things, but they do different jobs for a family. One builds a steady weekly habit around the school day. The other turns empty holiday weeks into something children look forward to, and gives working parents proper cover.
The case for an after-school club
It happens at your child's own school, straight after the bell, so there is no extra travel and the faces are familiar. That makes it the gentlest way in for younger or shyer children.
It is a rhythm, not a one-off. A weekly session across a term gives skills time to build slowly, and children time to get properly into a kit rather than trying everything once. The case for a holiday club
Time, mostly. A holiday club day runs for hours rather than one after-school slot, so projects can get genuinely ambitious: the marble run can sprawl, the stop-motion film can actually get finished, the robot can be rebuilt twice.

How to decide
Start with the problem you are solving. If you need the holidays covered by people you trust, that is a holiday club, and the STEM is the bonus. If your child has a spark you want to feed steadily, a weekly after-school club is the habit that does it.
Then think about your child. Some children love routine and do best with the same hour every week. Others switch on when they can go deep for a whole day. If you are unsure, a short holiday session is a low-pressure way to try a club before committing to a term.
You do not have to choose
A child who starts at a holiday club and loves it can join the weekly club at their school, or the other way round. The two feed each other: the term-time club keeps the interest alive, and the holiday club gives it room to stretch.
